While, we've had a fashion spread in each issue of MULE, as part of our effort to deliver clothing at it's most creative, free of the pressures a normal fashion-spread must endure, this one was different. All of our previous fashion spreads had been made by people we knew, always focusing on just one designer. This issue we decided to seek out work from a designer we'd never before met, ABIGAIL GLAUM-LATHBURY, tracking her down by a retailer, Chicago's HABIT where you can find many of GLAUM-LATHBURY'S creations. We asked the amazing ALEKS TOMASZEWSKA, who had shot for our ISSUE 3 Faun Fables story, if she would do us the honor of documenting. Tomaszewska, who tends toward a tour de force, with just about everything she puts her hands to, whether it's music (www.myspace.com/aleksandthedrummer) artwork, or co-conspiring became a one-woman organizer, art-director, makeup and hair stylist . . .
The work in this issue's spread was a combination of artists including Chicago's ABIGAIL GLAUM-LATHBURY, AAY PRESTON-MYINT, and KRISTEN KENNEDY, also a Knoxville native. The three make truly different work, but what drew us to all of them was their exceptional drive to MAKE. Alongside the clothes, we accessorized with a necklace from SOO CHOI, who you might remember from our ISSUE 3 fashion spread, that featured her 2005 -06 line of clothing. We also included earrings by GLORY ALICE, whose work you'll be able to see more of in our upcoming issue. One favorite shot, of our contortionist showcases hand-made shoes by our dear friend, MICHELLE QUICK, who might just have found her calling, in the hand-crafted deliberation of fine foot ware.
This online version of the fashion spread shows both the pieces that went into final print, and also a few others that we had to save because of space.
Much thanks to HEAVEN GALLERY for letting us shoot.
